About Domaine de Fumel

Eight select, individual, self-catering cottages, each for couples, with complete peace and tranquillity in the beautiful Dordogne. Our Medieval farmhouse complex, Domaine de Fumel, has been designed for people seeking an outstanding holiday.  It is an ideal place to stay for one, two or as a group of friends taking a gite apiece. Our team is dedicated to providing the best holiday resources and ideas to help you create unforgettable memories.

Adult Only

Our no children policy keeps the noise level to clinking glasses and gentle after-lunch snoring, with occasional tinkles of laughter.

Domaine de Fumel provides an oasis of calm and tranquility for the discerning holiday maker looking for an up-market gite for 2 people in the Dordogne, where you will be amongst like-minded people.

What to Expect

Time, care and attention have been spent selecting the right contents for each beautifully furnished holiday cottage to make them as perfect as possible.  They all have fully equiped kitchens with pretty china, plenty of glasses (very essential!), pots & pans etc., fridge freezer, gas fired oven & 4 burner hob, washing machine, dish-washer, microwave, coffee maker, toaster, iron and cold box for food shopping and picnics.  A hand towel and tea towels are provided for the kitchen, along with a cleaning sponge, washing up liquid, washing powder and dishwasher tablets.

The rooms are comfortably furnished including some country antiques and all have extra large beds.

The pretty bedrooms will be made for your arrival with bed linen, pillows and duvets or blankets provided.  The linen is changed weekly with a mid-let clean for stays longer than a week.

Hairdryers, soap and loo paper are also supplied.  Towels for personal & pool use can be rented, these are the only extras that we charge.

Each cottage has a gas barbecue, outside table & chairs and sunbeds.

Spring & autumn - some heating may be necessary in October and April.  There are electric radiators, some double-glazing, a wood-burning stove in La Tour and La Ferme.  There may be a nominal extra electricity charge, depending on requirements and logs can be ordered if required.  Other services e.g. cooking gas, water, laundry change etc. are included in the weekly rental, except for the local Tourist Tax currently at €1 per person per night.

Special rates available for longer-term stays, ask us!

    more about us

    Domaine de Fumel

The 14m x 7m swimming pool has a deep end of 2.2m and a shallow end of 0.9m with roman steps.  It is near the edge of a gentle grass slope and benefits from pastoral views and inspiring sunsets.   To one end of the pool is a spa whirlpool which benefits from great views across the fields.  Also at this end of the pool is a giant draft and chess set.  Sun beds are provided around the pool.  At the eastern end is a large covered seating area perfect to escape from the sun, gather in the evenings for an aperitif and watch the sun go down over the pool.

The surrounding extensive grounds are mostly laid to lawn with plenty of trees for shade.  Each property has its own private courtyard area with table and chairs provided for four people so you can share a barbecue, glass of wine or a meal with your neighbours.  Also for each house is a gas BBQ, deck/sun chairs and a set of boules for those of you with a competitive edge (or the energy).

Our land is designated a "Reserve de repeuplement" by the local Chasse which means there is no hunting allowed on it and it has therefore become a refuge for all the local wildlife. Golden Oriels and nightingales enchant us in spring and early summer; buzzards, owls, bats and hawks entertain us all summer and autumn.  Families of deer are regular visitors to Fumel.  Due to a careful policy on pesticides with farming and vines, our land benefits from wild orchids and fritillaries in early summer.

    Our Team

Our team is made up of local residents and the fluent French speaking on-site English owner are all passionate about sharing their love of the local area.  However, Ringo is really the boss!

    Out and About

Having lived in France for at least 30 years, having a love of all things cullinary and historical we are ideally placed to advise you of a miriad of places to see & restaurants to eat in.

    Our Location

Domaine de Fumel is well situated for all the tourist attractions such as the famous cave paintings at Lascaux, the Neanderthal and Cro-Magnon habitats around Les Eyzies, the magnificent châteaux at Monbazillac & Beynac, cloisters at Cadouin, Beaumont and Villeréal Bastide towns, ancient churches, ruined chateaux, beautiful views, walks and river trips and local arts and crafts.

Issigeac the local village has a thriving, large Sunday market and small supermarket  for supplies.  The village has numerous fine examples of mediaeval architecture and several excellent restaurants.  There is plenty of parking in the centre of the village, a tourist office and at least three cafes to enjoy a morning coffee and slice of cake.  Be sure to ask us for things to do and see locally especially if you enjoy a glass of wine!

Bergerac has many historically interesting places to visit, jazz on Wednesday evenings and on the first Sunday of every month the colourful "Flea Market" bursts with activity and (occasional!) antique bargains.

Golf is available at three different courses all within 30 minutes drive. There is a choice of lakes within 20 minutes drive, offering wind surfing, fishing and swimming. An absolute must is canoeing, with swimming & fishing on the beautiful Dordogne river.

There is a riding stable close by at Boisse with horse-drawn painted wagons for hire by the day and stables north of Bergerac with organised night rides through the woodlands.

Balloon flights from Duras and microlight flights from Cavarc, whilst at Issigeac, bicycles can be hired by the day and two tennis courts are available by the hour to start the day off properly!!
